About me

Simon Perks
Founder and Director

I am Sockmonkey’s founder and director. I have twenty years experience as a consultant to organisations across the public, not-for-profit and social enterprise sectors. I am also a chartered public finance accountant and a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy.

I am a skilled coach and hold the Institute of Leadership and Management’s postgraduate-level Certificate in Executive Coaching and Leadership Mentoring.

Before setting up Sockmonkey Consulting in 2011, I worked for ten years as a consultant in the public sector practice of a large, international consultancy firm.

As well as being an experienced consultant, I have degrees in political science and theoretical physics. I speak English, French, German and Russian fluently and can get by in Dutch, Mandarin Chinese and Spanish.

I am a member of the British Academy of Management, the Political Studies Association and the European Mentoring and Coaching Council.

When I am not working, I enjoy a range of outdoor pursuits, such as hiking, running, sailing, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding. I am also a keen writer, astronomer, gardener, baker and tea drinker. I live in Somerset with my wife, Natalie, and Molly and Ozzy, our Labrador dogs.

Molly & Ozzy
Front-of-house / Security

Molly (the orange one) and Ozzy (the black one) have taken on a greater role within the company since the start of the pandemic, with regular appearances on Teams and Zoom calls with my clients and in various conference presentations.

For this I can only apologise.

My plans for the future

Sockmonkey has now been in operation for ten years. I have established a strong track record of successful project delivery and have built up a broad and diverse base of lovely clients, with more joining me all the time.

So over the next year or so, I’ll be looking to develop relationships with other independent professionals or small businesses, who can help me to improve the nature, breadth and depth of services that I can provide to my clients.

This is a big – and a slightly daunting step – for me, but I’m keen to take Sockmonkey to the next level and am excited about what it will mean for the future.
