About me

Simon Perks
Founder and Director

I am Sockmonkey’s founder and director. I have twenty years experience as a consultant to organisations across the public, not-for-profit and social enterprise sectors. I am also a chartered public finance accountant and a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy.

I am a skilled coach and hold the Institute of Leadership and Management’s postgraduate-level Certificate in Executive Coaching and Leadership Mentoring.

Before setting up Sockmonkey Consulting in 2011, I worked for ten years as a consultant in the public sector practice of a large, international consultancy firm.

As well as being an experienced consultant and coach, I have degrees in political science and theoretical physics. I speak English, French, German and Russian fluently and can get by in Dutch, Mandarin Chinese and Spanish.

I am a member of the British Academy of Management, the Political Studies Association and the European Mentoring and Coaching Council.

When I am not working, I enjoy a range of outdoor pursuits, such as hiking, running, sailing, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding. I am also a keen writer, astronomer, gardener, baker and tea drinker. I live in Somerset with my wife, Natalie, and Molly and Ozzy, our Labrador dogs.
